Concerts

As usual we had mixed weather for our summer concerts.

26th July 2009 - The DLI Museum concert turned us into yoyos again. We were up and down spending some time in the cafeteria until the rain stopped. With wet music and wet chairs, we soldiered on for the full 2 hours.

30th August 2009 - We played at the Amphitheatre in South Shields. A very cloudy and extremely windy day but it stayed dry. There was a large and appreciative audience. Our version of Disco Lives went down well with some of the crowd getting up to dance to YMCA!!!

6th September 2009 - The last concert for the summer season was at Saltwell Park. Although the weather was not great and rather wet, there were still a number of people out to see us.

Thank You - To all the members for turning out in all weathers for another busy summer.

18th June 2009 - Joint Concert Chester-Le-Street C.E Junior School Choir - Another fantastic concert with Chester-Le-Street C. E Junior School Choir. This year was the third annual charity joint concert with the proceeds going to the Chester-Le-Street division on MIND.

The evening went down a storm with the choir stealing the show with their performance of a Mammoth Mamma Mia Medley!

This years concert was recorded and CD's are available to Band and Choir members, with the proceeds also going to MIND. Thank You to Peter Hepplewhite for recording the concert.

Our link with the school grows stronger every year. Our Drummer Andrew Robertshaw, an ex pupil added percussion to some of the choirs performance. Also our young cornet player, Abbie Stewart had a busy night playing with the band and singing in the choir.

A huge Thank You must go to Kirstie Swirles, Musical Director of the School Choir, pianist Mrs Fennick and all the staff at Chester-Le-Street C.E Junior School who helped out on the night.

It was especially nice to see Mrs Twomney, Head Teacher there to give her support whilst recovering from illness.

14th June 2009 - Concert Saltwell Park - The day started off nice and fine, in fact glorious sunshine, with a huge audience in the park. Until...the heavens opened at about 4pm. The crowd didn't run away though, they went for shelter. The band played their version of Singing in the Rain to entertain the troops, which went down very well.

Sunday 29th March 2009 - Songs from the Shows concert went down a storm Last night's "Songs from the Shows" concert went down a storm with a full house up front.

A big thank you to some singers who joined us to perform from The Caprian Theatre Company who blended in well with the atmosphere of a North East Concert Band Concert. Also Well Done to Alan for comparing the evening, however next time we will have to give him some tuition on joke telling!!!

Thank You to Bob Howitt who joined us to support our percussion section.

Ian was pleased with the bands performance of such a tough programme and was pleased when we got to the end of West Side Story!!! (Slightly earlier than expected, however Teresa did warn Ian that we wouldn't be able to keep up with Bob if he played that one!).

The audience enjoyed a glass of wine on arrival and the children were delighted with the cream eggs. A few of the audience even joined in singing along to Mamma Mia, Grease and My Fair Lady. The band received some excellent comments from members of the audience at the end of the night.

The band is going from strength to strength! It is so nice to see so many young members enjoying playing with the band. We hope this continues in the future.
